Loblaw Recalls PC White Grape Juice
Unlabelled Sulphites Prompt a Precautionary Recall
By: Sarah Munn, Staff Writer
The bottles were not labelled as containing sulphites, therefore putting consumers with sulphite sensitivity at risk.
There have been no consumer complaints or incidents reported, but the recall remains as a precautionary measure.
Sulphite sensitivity is similar to food allergies. Health Canada states that sulphites do not cause a true allergic reaction, though sulphite-sensitive people can experience reactions similar to that of people with food allergies. People who have asthma have the highest risk for sulphite sensitivity.
Loblaw has ensured the affected product has been removed from stores. The company also reported in a news release that the source of the sulphites had been identified and corrected in order to avoid a recurrence.
Those who have purchased President’s Choice White Grape Juice can return their items for a full refund, with or without a receipt. The juice was sold in a variety of stores across Canada.[pullquote] Health Canada states that sulphites do not cause a true allergic reaction, though sulphite-sensitive people can experience reactions similar to that of people with food allergies.[/pullquote]
