Key dates you need in the office calendar

If you have never run a business before, you may feel a little overwhelmed by everything you need to know. So much goes into running a business that you can quite often feel a bit out of your depth as you try to work things out. Trying to remember some key dates might seem impossible on top of everything else you need to do, so here are some key dates you need to remember to have in your office calendar.

Anything Financial

Even if you have hired someone else to handle your accounts, you as the business owner need to make sure you know exactly when everything is due. From submitting the accounts and AT returns to knowing when the tax year refreshes, you are the one who is ultimately responsible.

This does not mean that you have to be the one who works it all out. If you are not the most financially minded, you can leave the details to someone who is. However, as the managing director of your business, you need to make sure that you are kept in the loop about any changes which are needed.

The Business’s Anniversary

One of the most important milestones a business can reach is its first year of trading. It is thought that about 20% of small businesses fail in their first year and this percentage rises along with the number of years you have been in business for. Therefore, along with celebrating the birthday of your business, you should also make sure that you are celebrating another year trading.

However, it is important that you focus on positive notes during this time. Make sure that you truly celebrate your business and take the time to focus on a strategy for the next year. If you are getting ready to announce a big expansion or a new move for the company, this would be a great chance to do it.

Important Staff Dates

From birthdays to marriages and more, there are going to be plenty of opportunities for you to show your staff how much you care. The best managers are so often those ones who take an interest in us as humans. If you are able to celebrate milestones with your staff members, you will be looked on fondly. It can be something as simple as a birthday cake and getting a round in at the pub. It’s often the little things which matter the most.

The Christmas Party

The Christmas party is one night in the year which everyone looks forward to so it is clear that you should start planning as early as possible. It is an easy opportunity for your team to get out of the office and relax a little, as well as being an opportunity for you as a manager to give something back. Your staff have worked hard in the past year and you should reward them.

A Christmas party doesn’t need to just be dinner and some drinks in a bar. Thanks to experienced events hosts like Team Tactics, you could organise a Christmas party which is full of special activities which are a lot of fun for all. These are just some of the dates which you need to remember as a business owner but they are some of the most important. Work with your team as closely as possible and build a collaborative work calendar for no-one forgets any important dates. With a little forward-thinking and careful planning, you will be moving through the year with ease.
