Why SEO Is Importance in E-commerce

Do you want to have a successful e-commerce business in 2019? This is commendable, but it also comes with a few responsibilities along the way. You may have the largest, most accomplished and best arranged online shop, but the truth is nobody will see it unless your SEO is on point.

What is SEO? Well, the term stands for Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and it's basically the ranking of your page on search engines such as Google. It's important to make sure that your page comes up first on Google – and arguably some other search engines – when people write the specific keyword that you are trying to sell under. We explain why and how to be a little more successful at SEO right here.

SEO Matters a Lot – Overview

Why it matters? Well, did you know that the first result on Google will scoop up over 50% of all visitors? This means that if you are first, you will get the most traffic. If you are 2 or 3rd, this is about 20% of the overall traffic, and the numbers continue to drop as you go along. By the end of page one, you are already looking at 10% or less of the overall traffic. This is not much. Now imagine that you are not even on the first page – this will be a disaster if you are trying to sell online, wouldn't it?

To understand why search traffic matters, we will put in perspective. If you had 1,000 visitors a day, around 370 or 37% of those visitors will come after placing a random query in Google. The rest will come from direct traffic, i.e. specific links you have put out to generate traffic.

Referrals will perhaps account for 8% and you will have around 3.9%. You might argue – well, I can just buy traffic, can't I? Well, yes and no. The truth is that less than 2% is usually accumulated via paid traffic and to be quite honest, a single link can cost you upward of $500. Now, if you are selling something expensive, even that 2% traffic can actually make all the difference, but if you are selling clothes, for example, you might want to think twice before putting down thousands of dollars to buy links. You will need to, but there are many other costs that come first.

Besides, if you really stick with our recommendations, you will make sure to quickly start ranking on SERP. So, how do you get yourself up there?

Keyword Research – Choose Your Niche Carefully

You can be selling anything, really. You can even be offering services, but one thing that will always be of the utmost importance is your keyword research. If you are a house locksmith, a plumber or have a business like these, you will want to make sure that your website always shows up when a person puts this key term on google.

Alternatively, you will want to specialize in niche keywords. Some customers may be looking into the service you offer, but using another phrasing. If you spot this trend, make sure to throw these KWs in your own pages, you will soon start climbing Google for certain pages.

Build Good Website Architecture

Do what you will, you will want to know that your website architecture is built. You need to have a layout that is helpful and that makes your customers shop and find the products they need without any extra hassle.

Make your customers "not think" when navigating your website. The more intuitive the end product, the better chances you have to see the customer make a purchase.
